Pronunciation
How do you pronounce words in English and Persian? The problem in English is that many different letter combinations produce the same sounds, and there are many letter combinations that produce different sounds (same letter, sounds different in a different word). In Persian, we have a different problem. We simply can't see most of the vowels to know how we are to pronounce a word.
The problem is easily solved in English once you learn the various phonemes and phonograms. There is some rule learning and some memorization. In contrast, I haven't figured out a simple set of rules for Persian pronunciation and it seems like memorization is the only way to go. However, with some analysis, some rules may present themsevles.
Finally, a research question. Which languages pronunciation is easier to learn? Is there a way to assess the relative difficulty of each language?

If you want to learn a language, one of your most important tools is the dictionary. And don’t just stop at one. Each publication is different.
Many people don’t know much about how to use a dictionary, beyond looking up a word and finding what that particular dictionary says it means. But “A good dictionary is a record of a group of educated people’s adventures in tracing words’ histories and uses.”
The ajabanzabAn online dictionary is under construction. We will be using “wiki” technology so that we can all help to build it. While we’re working on that, here are some tips on other dictionaries out there for your use.
