Are you familiar with the Persian alphabet?  No?  Then you will be happy to know that ajabanzabAn.com has a handy alphabet guide packed with tips to give you a quick overview of the many features and quirks of the Persian alphabet.  Aside from that, this website has a few more indepth articles on the alphabet that you can read through.  Let’s start with the alphabet as it is usually shown.  A list of the letters in detatched form:

The Persian Alphabet has 32 Letters

In the column to your right is the Persian alphabet with its 32 letters all in a row (hey!  where did it go?).  You may notice a discrepancy between the letters in a chart and the letters in Persian words.  That’s because Persian is a semi-cursive script and the letters take different forms depending on where they are in a word.  Here, in fact, are the letters of the alphabet written as one word, with a link to our cursive page to explain more about that:

You may also notice a lack of vowels.  That’s because the 3 short vowels (a, e, o) do not have letters corresponding to them.  But for now, let’s focus on one important attribute of the alphabet:

The Persian Alphabet is Ordered by SHAPE.

The first letter, Alef, ( آ ) is unique and stands alone.

It is followed by be, pe, te, se -
