I hope someone could help me. I have spent hours online trying to figure out what the Persian word LOOKS LIKE for, FATHER and DAUGHTER. I found something on this website for FATHER but I need a bigger picture. My Father and I are very close. Truly best friends. Fathers Day is this weekend and Im taking him to get a tattoo. Im want to get something that means “FATHER” but not in English or CHINESE. Or anything “NESE” for that matter. Its too common to put CHINESE lettering on ones body. And I think the Persian Language is just very Unique and very Beautiful. And here is where I found the meaning for “FATHER” or “PEDAR”.

Yes, pedar is father:
پدر
Made up of a p, d and r (no vowels):
پ  د  ر

Baba is also father:  بابا

Daughter is doxtar:
دختر

It doesn’t look very fancy with typing.  Your best bet is to find a calligrapher who does fancy things with the script.  Some of these folks are real artists and the script looks as magnificent as the most delicate Chinese characters.  Now…how do I put you in touch with calligraphers?

And then you could add an adjective, like “dear father”

Ah!  I have an example of the difference between calligraphy and typed words.  My favorite phrase is:  عجبا لحلم الله
Attached is what a calligrapher did with it.  The extra bits are all those silent vowels and other guiding information that calligraphers add.  And some are just flourishes.

Here’s an explanation of the phrase.

The calligrapher in question is this guy at Bazar EnqelAb here in Shiraz.  There are quite a few of them at that mall.  You take them a phrase, sit and discuss it a bit, and hey presto, they calligraphize it.  Pretty cheap, too.  Don’t know that any of them are online to perform this service.  They’d have to write it, then scan it in.

Markjames, Thanks for posting.  Your post doesn’t belong in this topic.  Not sure where it belongs.  Are you trying to sneak in a link to a gre test site?  That’s somewhat related to our language theme, but still, not sure what your motives are.
