Rumi - Each breath brings a song of love - هر نفس آواز عشق مى رسد

OK, I loved the thank you note on the wedding invitation, but not sure I got the meaning. It says:

هر نفس آواز عشق مى رسد از چپ و راست
ما بفلك مى رويم عزم تماشاكراست
ما بفلك بوده ايم يار ملك بوده ايم
باز همانجا رويم جمله كه آن شهر ماست

Cool. I think it sounds like this, with the parts I am not sure of in color:

har nafas AvAze eshq miresad az chap o rAst
mA be falak miravim azme tamAshAkarAst
mA be falak bude-im yAreh malak* bude-im
bAz hamAnjA ravim jomleh ke An shahre mAst

*Note I had initially thought this was “molek”, but was corrected in post below. Apparently Molek isn’t even a word

So I think it means:

Each breath brings a song of love from the left and right.
We go to our destiny (or the heavens) resolved spectators (OK, I have no idea what azme tamAshAkarAst is)
We were at our destiny (or the heavens), we were (already) the companion of angels,
and we’re going there again because in sum - that’s our hood (well, “city”, but hood is more hip).

OK, whaddaya think? Am I on the right track?

This is how I feel about the magnet project

They said that it could not be done, he said just let me try.
They said, “Other men have tried and failed,” and he answered, “But not I.”
They said, “It is impossible,” he said, “There is no such word.”
He closed his mind, he closed his heart to everything he heard.

He said, “Within the heart of man, there is a tiny seed.
It grows until it blossoms, it’s called the will to succeed.
Its roots are strength, its stem is hope, its petals inspiration,
Its thorns protect its strong green leaves, its grim determination.

“Its stamens are its skills which help to shape each plan,
For there’s nothing in the universe beyond the scope of man.”
They thought that it could not be done, some even said they knew it,
But he faced up to what could not be done, and he couldn’t bloody do it!

Hafez on Anousheh Ansari

I’m most inspired by Anousheh’s space flight and all she’s done with the X-prize. When she went to space I did a fAle HAfez for her, and after only 2 flips of the book, came to this line which seems to fit ("anis" also seems close to “Anousheh"):

ستاره اى بدرخشيد و ماه مجلس شد - دل رميده ما را انيس و مونس شد

“setAre-i bederakhshid va mAheh majles shod, deleh ramideyeh mA rA anis o munes shod”
A star shone and became the moon of our gathering, It became the intimate and companion to our skittish hearts.

She certainly is a shining star, really looked like one what with the view of the burning rockets of the soyuz seen from below, where the rest of us, her fans and well-wishers huddled in wait for her safe return.

We with the “deleh ramideh” - skittish hearts, bolting, startled, disillousioned. Longing to break free from earthly bonds. She’s done it! Companion, and champion to us!

What a thrill!

Hafez is really into auto-flattery

OK, maybe it would be better described as “reflexive”. Anyway, Hafez just likes to talk to/about himself at the end of every poem. Just like a rapper with a tag line.

It would be nice to have a Hafez movie where he’s a rapping youth.

Like this bit of attached poetry. He ends with:

she’re HAfez hame beyt’ol’qazale ma’refatast
Afarin bar nafse delkesh va lotfe soxanash.

(yes, I use x not kh. Why two letters when you can use one?)

So, he’s saying “Hafez’s poetry is all sublime (cultured? wise? insightful?) beyts and qazals. Kudos on his heart-pulling essence and the condescension of his speech.” OK, that was too literal. Kudos on his heart-throbbing essence and the grace of his speech? The generosity of granting us his words. That stud. And all the girls and many of the boys go OOOOOH! HAFEZ!
